TOO MANY RESTAURANTS IN MAPLEWOOD VILLAGE?

Indigo Smoke open, and a new deli coming. Hey, bring on the diversity.

indigo3.jpgWith two more restaurants opening in Maplewood Village, the business
district will soon have at least 15 of them. Is that too much?

Indigo Smoke is now open, and drawing rave reviews, while Maplewood Deli
and Grille has a great sign up already and is likely operating within weeks.

When the dust settles, the list will include:

Maplewood Deli & Grille

Indigo Smoke

Cent Anni

Crane's

Sona Indian Cuisine

Bill and Harry's

deligrill3.jpgMaple Leaf Diner

Village Coffee

Lorena's

Luke's Kitchen

St. James Gate

Bagel Chateau

And three pizza places:

Roman Gourmet

Arturo's

Village Trattoria

"It is certainly better than nail salons," jokes Amy Koehler, director of
the Maplewood Village Alliance. "There are people who say it is too much.
But I think it is diverse enough that it offers something different. In some
ways, maybe a little competition is good."

She adds that "any storefront that is filled is better than an empty

storefront." Can¹t argue with that.
