In the race for Township Committee, Democratic incumbents Jerry Ryan and Kathy Leventhal appear to have at least one
challenger, one Eric Greene, who waited until the last day, Monday, to put his name into the running for endorsement by the
Maplewood Democratic Committee. Committee Chair Ian Grodman described Greene as a labor lawyer who had never before held public
office.
The Dem Committee set a March 2 deadline for those seeking its backing. Ryan, who replaced former TC member Ken
Pettis after he resigned late last year, must run after serving Pettis' final year. Leventhal is going for her third term
on the governing body.
Others wanting to run in the primary can still file the required 50-signature petition by April
6 and compete. But that party support is usually crucial.
